“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

The work goes on – just because we have suspended our services doesn’t mean that needs and expenses disappear. In this tough time we are all facing, it is more important than ever to support God’s work. Needs for benevolence are sure to increase, and we must be prepared to help where we can. Our missionaries and our pastor still depend on us.

What can I do, you ask? Be creative – we all can (and must) do something to brighten someone’s day, when so many people are frightened beyond belief. We can be a light in their darkness. Supporting your local restaurants by ordering take-out could mean everything to the server who is expendable when there are no tables to serve. The gas money you are saving by working from home might help someone else with their food or rent when they cannot work from home.

As your church treasurer, though, I must be a bit forward with you: although there is no offering plate to be passed, I am asking you to continue to give your tithes and offerings. We have a PO Box you can mail your checks to (no cash, please), and I will continue to deposit your offerings as before. The mailing address is Newport Southern Baptist Church, PO Box 1648, Newport WA 99156.

Thank you again for your faithfulness. You are the most generous people I have ever met!
